If so, SDOT will give you a pile of free stuff.
If not but you’re a single occupant commuter, promise to change your evil ways for two months and they’ll still give you $60 in bus tickets and a discounted Zipcar membership.
Already doing the right thing? Well, no free stuff for you. But thank you anyway.

SDOT chief Crunican seems pretty contrite about the city’s response to the snowstorms:
“We blew it,” Grace Crunican said, by waiting too long to ask for private contractors to help plow frozen streets. And while the city felt it was meeting its goals to keep major streets “passable,” it failed to see the bigger picture: residents stranded by icy streets, bus service that was forced to a halt and stores and restaurants struggling because customers couldn’t reach them.
It’s worth noting that, according to Crunican at least, the city’s haphazard response wasn’t just because this was a once in 100 year event that there was not hope in planning for, but simply because Crunican herself was driving around in a 4WD car and didn’t notice how bad things had gotten. Also, we don’t have to waste millions of dollars on snowplows that will sit idle, as some have suggested, but instead we can buy just a couple more and get better at hiring contractors. Sounds pretty reasonable to me.

I almost want to say Boo Ya but I won’t because there is one last alternative to the surface transit alternative. I really commend the state for throwing out all of the alternatives that should obviously not be advanced. Chopp’s alternative didn’t solve any problems (and just created more), and no matter how nice the tunnel sounds there simply is no money for it and if there is no money it will not happen. So the state made the hard choices and threw them out as it should have.
I would like to point out how the so called “grand compromise” was simply a political stunt by those that don’t want a surface alternative. They knew they had lost so they tried to circumvent the process at the last minute. The state rightly shut them down before they could even get momentum.
We should know what the governors choice is by the end of the year. I would be shocked if it isn’t the surface alternative. Now the major choices will be where transit money is spent and where is comes from.
