HOT Lanes
I found myself on SR 167 last week and I saw the HOT lane equipment being installed. I'm pretty curious to see how this project works out. It's pretty hard to jump into the HOV lane as a single passenger, but it's pretty easy to do it when it's an HOT lane. Who's to say you didn't pay to get in?

Access will be restricted to certain access points so you won't be able to jump in and out. Enforcement will be done manually and all entry points will have lights that indicate to police if a car has paid the toll or not. If they haven't paid the toll and they are an SOV they will be slapped with a hefty ticket.
In interesting factoid. If I'm correct Seattle has the lowest HOV violation rate of anywhere in the country. It is something like 3 or 4 %.
Aha, thanks. So it will be more restrictive than the HOV lanes.
Doesn't surprise me about the violation rate. Every time I go home to New York, I'm stunned by how the HOV lanes on the LI Expressway are so restricted and shunted off from the rest of the highway. But it makes sense. WA-style HOV lanes wouldn't work in NY, b/c the drivers would just violate them all the time.
