London to Paris
Now in just over two hours, with a new high-speed alignment to St. Pancras station.
Remind me why we can't do this in the U.S.? Can anyone credibly make the case that British and French engineering is superior to ours?

...of our unique geography?
...rail is ineffecient, and we should just have dedicated bus lanes where the buses can drive really really really fast?
...the French are cheese-eating surrender monkeys, so their engineers have to be bad?
...those Euros are all socialists, and don't realize cars are just better, and they should turn the chunnel into a car tunnel?
i'm partial to the geography thing. After all, surely tunneling under the man-made Montlake Cut is far, far more difficult than tunneling under THE ENTIRE FRIKKIN' ENGLISH CHANNEL!
